Classification of Hotels by Length of Guest Stay

According to the length of guest stay, hotels can be divided into the following categories:

Commercial Hotel
The guest stays at these hotels are short, ranging from a few days to a week.

Temporary Hotel
The duration of stay in temporary hotels, which are mostly used by travelers as a stopover during their journey, is very short, one day or less.

Semi-residential Hotel
These hotels are generally preferred by people who stay in one place and switch to another place. The length of stay can vary from a few weeks to several months. They combined features of both temporary and residential hotels.

Residence/Apartment Hotel

Extended Stay Hotel

Midsize/Midsize Services Hotels
These hotels offer modest services without the low-key and personal attention of luxury hotels and cater to the widest range of travelers. They can offer services such as room service, 24-hour coffee shop, airport and train station pick-up and drop-off facilities; multi-cuisine restaurant with bar.

A typical mid-service hotel will have roughly 150 to 300 rooms of medium size. Room rent is much lower than in luxury hotels. These hotels are preferred by business travelers, individual travelers and groups.

Budget/Economical Hotels
Budget hotels focus on meeting guests' most basic needs by providing clean, comfortable and inexpensive rooms. Also known as budget or limited service hotels, they primarily cater to groups of travelers on a budget.

Customers of budget hotels may include families with children, bus tour groups, traveling businessmen, vacationers, retirees and groups. These hotels have clean and comfortable guest rooms, a cafe, a multi-cuisine restaurant, in-room telephone, and channeled music and movies.
