Hotel Guest Room Types

A hotel sells a combination of accommodation, food, beverage, and other services and facilities to its guests. The main accommodation product is the room, which is among the main resources for the hotel. Other amenities and benefits such as ambiance, decor, in-room amenities and security are add-ons that play an important role in pricing services.

To suit the profile and pocket of various guests, the hotels offer different types of rooms that cater to the specific needs of the guests. Rooms can be categorized according to room size, layout, view, interior decoration and services offered. The various types of rooms offered by a hotel are as follows:

Single room
The single room has a single bed for single use. An extra bed (called an extra bed) can be added to this room at the request of a guest and will be charged accordingly. The size of the bed is normal 3 feet x 6 feet. However, nowadays the concept of single room is disappearing. For the most part, hotels have twin or double rooms and are charged for a single room if occupied by one person.

Double room
The twin room has two single beds for double use. An extra bed can be placed in this room upon the request of the guest and is charged accordingly. Bed size is normally 3 feet x 6 feet. These rooms are suitable for sharing accommodation between a group or delegate meeting.

Double room
The double room has one double bed for double use. An extra bed can be placed in this room at the guest's request and will be charged accordingly. The size of a double bed is usually 4.5 feet 6 feet.

triple room
The triple room has three separate single beds and can accommodate three guests. This room type is suitable for meeting and conference groups and delegates.

quad room
A quadruple room has four separate single beds and can accommodate up to four people in the same room.

Hollywood Twin Room
A Hollywood twin room has two single beds with a shared headboard. This type of room usually accommodates two people.

Double Double Room
The double-double room has two double beds and is normally preferred by a family or group for four people to stay together.

King Room
A king room has a king bed. The size of the bed is 6 feet by 6 feet. An extra bed can be placed in this room at the guest's request and will be charged accordingly.

Queen Room
A queen room has a queen bed. The size of the bed is 5 meters by 6 meters. An extra bed can be placed in this room at the guest's request and will be charged accordingly.

Connecting Room
Connecting rooms have a common wall and a door connecting the two rooms. This allows guests to access either of the two rooms without going through a common area. This room type is ideal for families and crew members.

adjoining room
Adjoining rooms share a wall with another hotel room, but are not connected by doors. eg. Room number. 201 and 202, 203 and 204, 205 are adjacent as each pair of rooms share a common wall.

An adjacent room is very close to another room but does not share a common wall with it.

Living Room
A lounge room has a living room without a bed and can have a sofa and chairs to sit on. It is not usually used as a bedroom.

studio room
The studio room has a bed and a sofa bed and is often used as a living room.

coat
A cabana is located away from the main hotel building, near a swimming pool or sea beach. It may not be a bed and is often used as a dressing room, not a bedroom.

Suite
A suite consists of multiple rooms; sometimes it can be a single large room with clearly defined sleeping and sitting areas. The decor of such units is of very high standards, aimed at pleasing wealthy guests who can afford the high traffic of the room category.

duplex
The duplex suite consists of two rooms located on different floors, connected by an internal staircase. This suite is generally used by business guests who want to use the ground floor as an office and meeting place and the upstairs room as a bedroom. This room type is quite expensive.

Productivity Room
The efficiency room has an attached kitchen and bathroom for guests who choose to stay longer. Usually, this type of room is found in holiday and health facilities where the guest stays longer.

Hospitality Room
A hospitality room is designed for hotel guests who want to host their guests outside of the rooms reserved for them. Such rooms are usually charged by the hour.

Penthouse
A penthouse is usually located on the top floor of hotels and has an attached outdoor terrace or open sky area. It has very flamboyant décor and furnishings, and is among the most expensive rooms in hotels favored by celebrities and prominent political figures.

n has a veranda or roofed veranda and is often furnished and used as a living room. It usually has garden or sea beach views.
